Playing With Freedom

Freedom becomes responsibility the moment the script disappears.

The essay begins with the excitement of self-direction and follows it into the less comfortable territory behind it. Without an external script, there is more room to choose, but also fewer places to send the blame. Agency becomes the willingness to decide and carry the consequence.

Dis-traction

The notification problem often hides a more difficult decision problem.

The essay challenges the assumption that attention can be recovered through a better timer, stricter blocking, or another productivity technique. Noise matters, but unresolved choice creates its own noise. Focus begins when something is deliberately excluded.

The tension: Every open loop keeps competing because none has been denied importance.
The argument: Attention management follows priority judgment. It cannot replace it.
The practice: Reduce unresolved choices before trying to increase concentration.

'Don't Give Up' Is Bad Advice

Persistence deserves a test, not automatic praise.

The essay treats quitting as a judgment call rather than a character failure. Continuing can be courageous, but it can also become a way of defending an old identity, sunk cost, or public commitment after the original reason has stopped surviving scrutiny.
